Damn good writing advice from Joe Bob Briggs:

  1. The way you become a writer is: write every day. No exceptions.
  2. What you write is not important.
  3. Nobody is gonna steal your idea.
  4. There are no new ideas.
  5. Be honest. It always works.
  6. Don’t listen to anybody’s opinions about what you write, especially your friends and family.
  7. Never be afraid to write something that stinks.
  8. If you can explain how to write a book, then you don’t know how to write one. If you can write a book, then you won’t be able to explain how you did it. It’s stupid, but it’s true.
  9. There are no member cards or initiation rites for this profession.
  10. Nobody can tell you how to write, but there are certain things you can do to get to a place where you can write. There are three of them: write every day, write every day, write every day.

If I may be so bold, I’ll add an eleventh one: get the fuck off the Internet.
