I’m confused as to why people are making a big deal of this now when Facebook has had the same thing in their TOS since 2008. Have you uploaded any photos to Facebook since 2008? What’s different now?

Because lots of people use Instagram that don’t use Facebook. Or they used Instagram prior to the acquisition and have been hoping the two stay relatively separate. Everyone *knows* Facebook is evil but Instagram has always had the appearance of being cute and fuzzy. These terms make it clear the Facebook takeover is in full effect and Instagram is no longer cute and fuzzy, but also evil - which is a big deal.
