I use Tumblr a lot, it’s a great platform and I recommend it to many people for a variety of projects. I also use and recommend The Missing E, a browser extention that adds a lot of functionality to Tumblr that isn’t built in. Functionality that most people don’t need, but anyone who is managing a number of Tumblr blogs can really use. I learned about The Missing E from Anthony De Rosa who also manages a ton of Tumblr blogs. Today when logging into Tumber I was presented with this warning, which is insane and forced with making the choice to either uninstall The Missing E or agree to no support on my Tumblr account.

There is a world of difference between server side service (things happening at Tumblr that I have no control over and only they can fix) and a client side extension (something only on my end that I can turn off or on at will). To require me to disable an extension or forfeit any support to my account is wrong, misleading, and hostile.

And I’m locked out of my account until I make that choice.

I love Tumblr, but this is too far and I’m done with it until this kind of strongarming shit is gone.
